"How do you fix that? .... How? What do you do to make them want it, try... How do you make a person who quit try and try harder?"

By leading by example. If does not happen over night. Eventually someone will take notice and listen.

I do that everyday at the department I manage. Am I going to everyone happy? No not in a million years. By the end of the day I know I did the best job possible.

I have been only a member of this site since end of December 2008. I only found it by chance by surfing the web. This site as well as LIMA is not well known of despite the exhausting efforts of members of both sites.

I have thought of ways to increase membership to this site and LIMA to gain the support we need.

    1) There is no mission statement. The mission statement should be at the top of the forum and directly link to the LIMA website. I did'nt know to join LIMA until a member informed me to. LIMA needs a mission statement also.

    2) Look at all the car shows we go to. There are hundreds of people. Car people and people without cars just to view. My favorite one is OBI on Sunday morning. Too bad if you can't get there by 6:45am because you don't get a space to park! Spend one morning at OBI and tell me there is not enough support for a motorsports park on LI.

With that said, I know flyers are being handed out. We all know what happens to the flyers. Hardly anybody goes back and signs up for the websites.

What if we can sign people up for the website at the car shows? We can sign them up using a wireless laptop? This way they are automatically signed up. When we need to rally we have all the email addresses to send a group mailing out.

    Comments?

To sign people up right on the spot. Without time to think about the flyer you just gave them.

I can't count the times we have been on news 12, newsday and the former suffolk life.. Even the NYtimes... 2 times on l.i. talks even radio.

Either everyone is under a rock...or like i have seen they just don't get it...
Or news 12 as i believe isn't that highly watched

As for the lap top idea... you could just hand them a sheet to add there e-mail to right there, you'll find most people aren't writing there e-mail

Spend one morning at OBI and tell me there is not enough support for a motorsports park on LI.
Support and people who take interest in parking there cars / a early morning gathering spot seems to be very different then going to a motorsports facility and those people i find myself having to sell the idea as to wouldn't you rather a spot to go to where your welcome, without being looked at by local law as a problem, people calling up on you.. and if you and _____ want to make that pass or lap around you can do it all in one spot without the added after thought in the back of your head....

I could take you to many spots across long island, queens, brooklyn, bronx and even parts of upstate that want what we are fighting for....including street racing spots.
But, and there is always a but they can't seem to get to what's important...

I have been down to captree many times, i just do not hand you a flyer and walk away, i hand you a flyer and explain the importance and where we are at... I couldn't tell you how many people couldn't stop for a second and listen...they were in a rush to get there coffee, or hand them a flyer and sticker and they toss it to the side... or tell me "it'll never happen"

Aside for going down to hang out and talk, we also had 2 gatherings there, i can still remember the bs attitudes i got from people...the same people i may spend 90 hours a week fighting for... i can remember there face and there car.

As for the plan on LIMA i am sure it is there, it's either in announcements or about us, if not i'll move it to annoucements

i know the club that hosts flowerfields and belmont ask for you email............i figure why not us.? ..hey if only one out of five give it to us...thats one out of five more than we had before we started....instead of trying to get eveyone...i ll settle for one here and one there....how long have you guys been doing it...??? all those years...so one more here and there helps....somewhere we will have the numbers..gotta keep banging on doors....i dont mind doing it....i brought in three people...if we get one more..they might bring in at least one or two....
it will add up ...might take a hundred years..but so far...we dont have much else to do ...

    Nova:

I like the idea of an application to fill out for membership. Even if we got 2 out of every 5 people to sign up we ahead of the game.

    Supershafts:

Your dedication and efforts are outstanding!!!!

    Keep up the hard work!

Last count we have over 500 members in LID and LIMA.

If 1/2 of the members attended a rally and bring their cars up route 25 to the Calverton site we would block traffic for miles. This would send a very strong message to the Town of Riverhead that we do not agree with their plans and that they are not within contract of the Navy land agreement.

Two weeks later we do the same rally at Yaphank.
