the only changes whir- the cheap used Slicks, KYB shocks and a deferent DP.

i have one in my nova.....and am getting rid of the 3800 stall.......going higher.....its an art carr trans...and if your looking for a great torque cnverter...it was built by art also......give me a shout.....its a non lock up type.....

Who are you getting the torque converter from? (cus I'm just getting around to looking at them)

I have been looking at TCs for about two years :confused:
TODAY I have it narrowed down to
1- a 10” L/U from PTC
2- A 9.5” L/U From Art Carr “CPT”??
3- a 12” L/U from ProTorque
4- or a 10” L/U from PPC
ProTorque is leading the way because of price and they are local, But at the same time I don’t just want to but the least expensive thing I can find.

3800 is way too much stall for me i am only looking to go with 2600-2800 max. plus i am keeping the L/U.

the ten inch is $300.00 more plus ProTorque says that the 12" would work on my car??
remember its a DD and only a target of a 11.50s

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh gotcha......not bad for a daily driver......damn good for sure......hope you get what your looking for.....fun though trying different things......any suspension work done?.....some adjustments gave me two more tenths ....

well it goes like this.
i put on the used slicks, DP (turned down the boost) and KYBs made two baseline pases at 24 PSI and pig rich O2s in the high 800s low 900s
first-13.02
Second-12.686
i then turned up the boost 1 PSI
then the car broke in the burn-out box. SO i haven't touched it since November.
Either the trans Broke or the TC.
BTW the all my runs whir leaving the line at 0 boost (+/- 1psi) and only at 1400 RPM.
i think that on the 12.68 pass i left the line at about 3 Psi.
with the new stall i hope to leave the line at about 6-7 Psi and at 2600-2800 RPM

makes two of us.....since my motor was refreshed last year....aside from driving around and car shows....i havent taken her to the track and see what the refresh did.....the extra cubes was the only change i made....cant wait...i like island...its closer to me...

i dont think island is bad....i had something wrong and they told me i can run but next time to get it fixed.....after all..its good that they watch it.....you dont want to have a problem if something isnt right......better safe....

Actually we got hassled for a battery box that was "accepted" at every other track we went to that year while chasing points. It was just aggravating. It was also a long time ago now that I think about it. Don't get me wrong , I'm all for doing things right/safe. Some things just get under my skin.....

On the last post Tpower68 made he was trying to break into the 11's around thanksgiving. turns out he broke her before he could get her down the lanes again. I don't know , maybe I'm not following this either Did I miss something Dose. Are you with me on this or am I a space cadet. Does happen to me sometimes. LOL.

I now how disappointing that must be. So I feel for you 68. What were you running in the malibu?

guess it may be a sore subject. but you never know who may have something out there and is willing to help in some way after reading the threads. thats what they are there for.
I was treading that same line. 12 "Os" and got to run an 11:81. blew the head gasket and never ran an 11 again. back into the 12's. so I know how he feels about being on the line. Although i didn't blow the engine up, it was definitely hurt.
I ended up going with a different engine down the line but a little more conservative, and right now I may run a high 12 for all I know. Time will tell.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh yes.....no one bullshits the clock...thats for sure....i redid my motor.....refresh...cause i was loosing oil pressure....bearings to a crap after about 10 years...not bad....but i couldnt save the crank...soooooooooooo...had to spring for a new one...eagle steel crank...and had to go 60 over....but all in all its the same motor....didnt change anything else....hopefully got a tenth out of it.....hey probably not..but i can dream ..cant i????

so the 60 over made it the 468? I have a big block 454 1972 motor that I would love to build a 427 roller motor some day.
guess I would need a 396 crank for that right dose? you need to school me on the big blocks.
I have been small block most of my life and the only big block I had was low compression and fun to drive on the street in the 78 malibu. You know I passed emissions when I first put that motor together. The guy doing the inspection couldn't believe it. 1978 emissions passed on the 454 running a summit high energy cam and performer intake with a 650 double pump holley.

i got a 468 ...reworked edlebrock heads larger valves....damn fools had 7degree retainers in it..changed it to ten.....12.5 compression....1050 dominator on a team g intake......2004r art carr overdrive with a 4000 stall speed converter....456 gears with a spool.....and god ..i just love driving it all over.....yeah its a roller motor too....700 lift....but a milder duration...this guy in the carolinas cut my cam.....very nice....im up for building another one....lets play...

Life was good
1-Ran the 12.10
2-had to work AND money was tight so i never made it to the BlackFriday TNT at Atco.
a few weeks later
3-Its a beautiful Sunday morning (6:15 AM) and on my way to Captree when i decided to do a quick blast.
A-I slam on the gas
B-the boost gauge goes up
C-The Knock Retard goes up with it
D-Next i hear a Hard low end knock.
the car sat for a few days and the ALKY kit wasn't primed.
basically i didn't have the fuel to support 25PSI of boost.:violent1: plus the colder denser air.

i will be pulling the engine out in a week or so and dropping in a newly purchased complete bone stock long block with about 78K which is 100K less then my current engine that just went 12.10.

i am also building another engine for the car but that one is going to be built for high tens and tuned to run 11.50s.

i'll do a write up on the swap if you guys are interested???

i will be picking up the engine on Wednesday in Delaware, wish me luck.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck but if that bottom end had 178,000 miles on it and ran a low 12 you must have been doing something right. Doing a build posted here would be cool to see though. Don't it piss you off when you see the pros spend an engine and just go back to the trailor and slip in a new one, while our entire car cost about as much as a set of heads for them or in my case a carb.
