Just throwing this out there.........:3gears: It's too late this year but maybe for next year.

A Long Island Drag Racing reunion would promote the awareness that we need a drag strip on Long Island.

The reunion would also celebrate the past drag racing on Long Island and the three tracks that we used to have Islip, NY National and West Hampton.

What do you think?

Great idea. Starting now for next year should give enough lead time for everyone.

Not what I meant to say.

The six of us or so that participate of this website create a reunion.

Actually that day there was more accumulation in the north shore of Nassau and the five boros than out east. Also this past winter was an odd season where we did not have alot of accumulating snow but we had alot of minor snow/ice events. We went out 14X this past season. Most salt we ever used in a season.

After Art's post #2 this idea went into the negative and then changed to a snow event followed by global warming and prehistoric times.A good idea tbecame a joke.Do you get why we haven't gotten anywhere yet.Why people don't join!

people dont join because people dont know about the site not because the thread goes off topic. Richie made a statement that we did get together that day...and it snowed.

Thats exactly why I wanted to start something positive with this post. Something that we all have a say in and all control together.

I am a (silent) member ;) of civic organizations that we are up against to get info on what they are doing.

We as a group either need to get it together and take positive action or we have only ourselves to blame when we are in traffic coming home from our home track in New Jersey.

I attached an email I got the other day. Take notice how organized they are.

As you read it think about how we had a meeting and it snowed and how we argue over meaningless things. For the record I have to work when it snows otherwise I would have attended.

Email I got from a Civic Assoc helping out the Pine Barrens Commission:

Sounds like Beth is up on things. I knew about two of those IR's (1709 1722) but not the other. You do see the need to have flexible tiome on weekdays being key here, which speaking for myself, is not a regular thing. ( I have on occasion taken time off from work or been off for some of the RHTB stuff I was at)
Thanks for the share. Hopefully some eyes will open.

You gotta come east more often, we already hold a weekly No Track event at Nathans, when it gets too cold, (below 68) i bring the practice tree and we take over a booth.

East for him, west for me. I can never get "me" time on wednesdays, it is just not in the cards for me. But I have a plan......

She said that the e-mail was sent to a membership based e-mail list and shouldn't have been re-published. I haven't seen the e-mail list she was talking about, but it's possible it had some sort of clause about not redistributing information or something like that. But as she was the author of the message that was posted and asked for it to be removed I felt it was best to honor her request.

That really does show we are being watched by others. So everyone remember when we fight amongst ourselves everyone sees it.

I told you all long ago I invited civics to check us out, thinking we would be a professional looking motorsports group looking to work with communities to re-establish safe legal motorsports.Making the public roads safer.Opps my mistake.Does the idea of public support make sense or is that another one of my dumb ideas? Are we wasting our time or is time a wasting? You tell me.

We had put something like that together at LID in the last few years. It was ok, but really didn't have a real big turnout. Maybe with the right promoting it would fly..... where would you have it.

I actually got the idea from the reunion at the old Pocono Drag Lodge held in August of last year.

"Where would you have it"?

I would like to see it at the Calverton Property. Have the cars lined up on each side of the runway.

The reunion was such a success that they are having another one this year.

Bill where was the ones you attended promoted. I don't recall hereing about it. You hit the nail on the head though get the word out. Getting people to come. Putting it somewhere that would attract people would help. Getting public attention for this cause is what we need. The politicians know we're out there but they see us as splinter groups and unorganized. This is the main reason we've had little results. To attempt this and have a small turnout only will hurt us but a well planned heavily attended rally reunion would drive the point home. It needs to be an event. We've got plenty of time to mull over the idea.

Walter, Big Tony and I sat down and discussed this event, they set the wheels in motion, they had it 2 or 3 times near the end of LID. National Speedway and Westhampton racers raced the 1/4, Islip racers raced the 1/8. I feel it could have been much better with a bunch of promotion. I guess there was about 50 or so cars involved in the racing. Some cars on display, not mant fom what I remember. I still know a bunch that raced at Islip before they moved on. Many raced at multiple tracks. Still intouch with some, some are still customers. I was at a racers meeting when Carricola still owned the track, I was still racing then. It was somewhere in Nassau somewhere, there were about 150 racers there. There is always bull shit.....I understand life is full and hectic most of the times for most people, but I never see a shortage of excuses for not doing what you say you were going to do. Weather helping organize something, run something, promote something, go to a meeting or just help somebody out. Come that time, there is always excuses. If people would simply say they can't be somewhere or do something, fine.....I guess they all mean well, but when the tme comes........ few show up as you have seen. I'm open to help in any way I can for a reunion.... or get a track going on LI. If I give a definate yes, consider it done, some things I can't or don't want to do and I'll say that, not say count on be just to look good. Keep in touch, waiting for next meeting........Bill
