The more people the better. It is a small meeting room and 15-20 Motorsports members would take up 1/2 the room.

some take notes and report back....with my work schedule i just get home from the city.

I got to the meeting early with my son and sat down outside the meeting room.

Steve Levy sat down next to me. He joked that I was following him since he recognized me and my son from the last meeting. Well I am following you...:hello:

I explained to him that we need a safe place to race on LI. Before I could finish he said that he understands that we are spending huge amounts of money and time to go to NJ and PA.

He supports racing but wants to find an area that will work for everyone. He explained that the Yaphank site is not the place. He believes that Calverton is the right place because of the existing runways. He commented that the property is large enough to support the ski mountain and the dragstrip.

I asked him what we can do to make it happen. Since Suffolk County does not control the property we need to put pressure on the Riverhead town.

Since we know the Riverhead Supervisor election is up the November we need to support Sean Walter who is pro race facility.

Bottom line is we need our elected person in office to run the Riverhead town to have a fighting chance. IMO

I wish I was there, too much family stuff going on right now.Did Levy say he would help us,through his support behind Sean Walter.Maybe we should invite them to meet with us like they do with ABCO we probably have a bigger following. This post should be followed with posts about how you can't trust him.But I'm a strong believer of playing the hand your dealt,go with what you got.Did you or anybody from our group talk during the meeting. We also need support from those that were there that don't consider our goal.

"Did Levy say he would help us,through his support behind Sean Walter"

He told me that he believes that the Calverton property would be the best place for a Motorsports facility because of the existing runways. We did not talk about Sean Walter. He told me that our organization needs to apply pressure to the Riverhead town. Supporting Sean Walter and gaining back the Riverhead Supervisor seat would better position ourselves.

"Maybe we should invite them to meet with us like they do with ABCO we probably have a bigger following"

Not a bad idea. What is the worst thing can happen, they decline.

What would you need to make a meeting possible?

What would you need to make a meeting possible?
First a place, then invite and let them set time,we just suggest evenings as we all work. Then of course we would have to show up.Putting pressure on Riverhead requires residents of Riverhead but we could do so politicing for Walters.

Waiting for Marty to chime in and tell everyone they don't know what they are talking about and if they do what they were talking about in post 12-15 that they are fukking up what he is doing, and how they should just sit back and wait for his idea to go through. It makes perfect sense if you've been reading this board for the last year.

When I post things like this I have it with Marty's appearence in mind,or anybody that wants to be involved.Important word here is being involved. If we want it we need to do it together. The way I see it is that nobody here has the definitive answer, but each of us has legitimate questions and ideas. This is what you need to bring to a political meeting. We all know the end results we want and deserve. As government officials it is there job to provide us the answers for social issues which this is.I'd like an honest answer it what we are looking for is achievable on Long Island.I'm pretty shure Levy knows the real answer, but will he put on his street clothes and give it.I would to get his opinion in a more likely than not answer or yes or no with the layout of L.I. today.I would like to go foward with this or if the answer is no spend my time on something worthy not waste it.It's been more than five years and we've gotten nowhere.
As far as a place well how does ABCO get to use the public library,is it that it is public and all we need to do is ask.Does anybody out there own a business that has a conference room?Hell maybe Mr.Levy will invite us to his place.

ABCO meets there monthly. (third Monday)I would imagine since the library falls within Brookhaven town, ABCO qualifies as local organization and is eligible to use the space. It would be the same if we as a group asked any taxpayer funded public space for the same opportunity. Or at least that's what I think, since I dont actually know. Next time I am at the library, I will ask. There. Now I sound totally as confused as I am. :o

I thought Longwood public Library is funded by Longwood school tax money ??

I can only tell you what my property tax bill says. There are several different levies based on the asessed value and they are something like this:
Town Tax
County Tax
Fire District
Ambulance District
Library
Street lights
oh and the School District (I almost forgot lol)
The bill breaks it all down by percentage and weather or not the rate has gone up or down in the calender year. It is very informative with regards to just where your dough goes (or doesn't). I may have forgotten a line or two but that is pretty much it.

I would imagine you would have to be in the district and maybe carry a library card.Every district has a library and most libraries have meeting rooms.

Levy to name 2 developers for $400 million Yaphank project
Wednesday, July 29, 2009 By RICK BRAND

After more than two years of complex talks, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy is expected Tuesday to name two developers to remake Yaphank with 1,000 units of affordable housing, a "destination" sports and entertainment venue and a solar-powered research park.

In a news conference that will be held in Yaphank Tuesday, the county executive will name Katter Development Co. and The Beechwood Organization to build the $400-million project on what is now 247 county-owned acres.

"It's going to get our young adults out of the illegal attic and basement apartment and into a decent place to live," said Levy. "When people see the beauty of this project in its final stage they'll be asking why don't we have more of these and why didn't we do it sooner."

However, Legis. Kate Browning (WF-Shirley), who represents the area, said she is "very concerned" a 1,000-unit project will overwhelm the historic Yaphank hamlet. "The population of Yaphank now is about 1,000 and this project will double that," he said.

The proposed development, Legacy Village, is scaled down from the 2,000 units originally sought by competing developers in 2007. It will consist of 785 affordable one- and two-bedroom condominiums, as well as 215 market-rate two-bedroom town house units with legal one-bedroom apartments. There will also be 72 rental units at the sports and entertainment complex.

For affordable units, starting prices would be $196,000 for 1,100-square-foot two-bedroom, 1 1/2-bath and $800-a-month rent for a 750-square-foot one-bedroom apartment. Developers have not yet priced the units that will go at market rates.

The project includes a sports and entertainment center, with a 5,500-seat indoor arena, a 5,000-seat outdoor arena and track, a 90-room hotel, four restaurants, and 75,000 square feet of office and retail space.

At the south end, a 95-acre alternative energy research and development center with a four-megawatt solar plant will generate power for the complex.

Backers also say the project will generate $5.5 million in tax revenue - $3 million of it property tax revenue for the Longwood School District. The housing, they added, will only generate 100 schoolchildren at a cost of $1.6 million - because Levy insisted on limiting the number of bedrooms to curb the school-age population.

Alan Gerstenlauer, Longwood school superintendent, said the school board has not taken a position, but there is "fair amount of opposition" locally. "If it's 100 children, we could probably manage," he said. "But there are a number of people who don't believe that's accurate." Under the deal, Levy estimates the county will get more than $57.5 million in benefits including at least $15 million in cash for the property. The developers will build the indoor and outdoor arenas, which the county says is worth $34 million, and spend $2.5 million on 30 acres for public ballfields.

Levy's selection now goes to to the county legislature for approval and then developers will have to seek Brookhaven's approval for rezoning.
