How much to install ford housing ends onto a Chevy rear?
http://www.moserengineering.com/Pages/Housing-Ends/housingends.html
What is a fair price to pay to have Ford ends installed onto my Chevy rear end?
Who can do this for me?
thanks

Are you doing that for brakes?

No
i want to do it to use the big ford bearings and seal instead of C-clip eliminators

I guess you are in deep enough or it is application specific enough to not consider a fabbed 9 inch housing? Just being nosy mind you.

Fabbed ford 9 inch is beyond my reach and I’ve already put some money into this rear.

I kind of figured that. When I did my 7.5, I promised myself I wouldn't spend more than $100, and I actually got gears in it for less than that. Granted I did everything myself and had the gear oil on hand, I just couldn't justify any further investment. If I ever get around to making serious hp/torque, a nine inch is (at the moment) the most cost effective solution I have found.

I put a Moser 12 bolt in my car with the ford ends, 11 inch B-body drums, 4.56 gears, alum. support cover, and screw in studs. got it right from Moser drum to drum for $2800

Give a few shops a call, but it'll be cheaper for the elim bearings

call AMH auto parts in Farmingville, they should have ejm on the shelf. Never go to a big chain autoparts store, they suck.

Try one of these 2 K00072 or 4631N

If they don't have that call 631-585-8850 speak with butchy, bruce or mike... That is in centereach on 25 and just east of hawkins.

There are other parts stores closer to you but i can't think of them at the moment...
Auto parts depot in bohemia is closer to you, just can't think of the number

I never use cover gaskets, they always seam to leak. Every rear i put together thus far I've used GM gray silicone (same stuff they use for the ends of the intake manifolds) and never had a leak yet.

The funny thing is, they usually have it. But if you cannot give a "year, make, model, with or with out power ashtrays" application, the "help' cannot find it. And on stuff like mine which is junkyard, used, traded, swapped, etc. , that can be entertaining at times trying to remember the source/donor. I really should write things down.......

Colvin's? That's in Baldwin isn't it?

The problem is the counter guys years ago used to turn a wrench now these guys for the most part have never worked on a car. The problem it is like that everywhere now. Even when buying truck and machine parts. If they can't find it on the computer the first time they giive up like it can't be done. But there are still some real parts guys out there. At all brake systems in Wyndanch the owner is like rain man with truck parts. He is amazing half the time I walk in he knows the exact part number before I make it to the counter.

Funny you say that
I worked at parts store part time for two years
And the boss’s son was a parts guru, he was able to diagnose anything from behind the counter but he didn’t even know how to replace a spark plug.

Yeah All Systems is pretty good. Are you referring to Tony? He is pretty smart about a bunch of things. At the last Spicer clutch clinic I went to, he and his son were there. He knew the answers to just about everyones question. Which kinda took the wind out of the sails of the rep. I've been to some pretty informative clinics at All Sstems too. Plus they usually have great food. :D

I am still trying to figure out what to do about a rear end.

Right now my rear is working great BUT
With the new work I am doing to the car plus me wanting to change the gears I have no clue on which way to go????
Recap- OE 10 bolt 8.2 rear with a locker and 3.08 gears and stock everything else.
As you all know by now my target is 11.50s at 3800 #s
So the dilemma once again is do I put gears and axles onto the current OE rear?
OR
Do I stop being cheap and try to get a 12 bolt?
I have actually started looking for a 12 bolt but I keep coming up empty and because of this I keep thinking of just building the stock unit.

BTW the general consensus is that the 10 bolt 8.2 can’t take the power but when I ask. Have you personally seen one broken in an Automatic car running 11.50s? All I get is crickets.

the new trans and converter is in. The car feels better then ever, now i am really getting worried about the rear i started looking again for 12 bolt rears but dam these guys want gold, diamonds, arms, legs and first borns for cores.
