Just an thought.
The Shinnecock Reservation has been fighting for a Casino forever.
Has LIMA ever approached the Shinnecock Indians about a Motorsports Park? The reservation has about 1,200 acres.
The revenue would be just as great or better than a Casino.

wow....can you imagine....????? that would be actually something that would be good for all......
not as good as a casino..but then again..theyre never going to get one on long island....but this would be a draw....they can then serve food..etc...lots of things can spin off it.....

It might have been deleted then, it's that old....
Anyway we went thru all the particulars and monetary end of it and explained they wouldn't even need to pay for the construction end of it...
I had worked on that during epcal, they weren't interested

The reservation has about 1,200 acres.
That is also part of the fight behind the casino issue...the disputed 1200 and then fight for southampton to pay for stealing from them... Keep in mind according to them south/hamptons is all theirs...
There pushing for that casino in a big way, now we'll have to see how aqueduct plays out. Many people aren't thrilled about aqueduct becoming a casino...
We had a long discussion with them about the entire casino mess, it's immediate impact on it's surroundings and the economic benefit compared to each other and what they draw from each other...
Also there original plan wasn't a gem on the water, it was a casino in the woods.
If you ever ran at bridgehampton then you know the issues trying to get in or out with the hamptons traffic, the immediate area would suffer as it does with traffic.
That end of the island is killing themselves with there lack of roadways...is it done purposely, or just blindly...
Technically i wouldn't want to go to that end for a track, though we did talk with them..
novadose454
12-28-2008, 02:06 PM
i know what your saying about that area and the traffic...i think its a blind eye..but if it gets a track and more traffic...im sure theyll be voting for more lanes and a bypass of somekind to keep the traffic out of thier small shitty barbie like towns......sorry about not calling you names marty....usually theres a dick or asshole attached to the posts...but hey..its christmas...lol.................:poke::poke::D

From what I am reading in the posts it does not look like a good site.
I like what the Shinnecock Indians do, they never give up.
In today's 12/28/2008 Newsday there is an Editorial that the Suffolk Legislature has created a task force to investigate their casino plan.
It looks like the trigger mechanism for the task force is the amount of revenue the casino would bring to the local economy.
Sounds familiar:confused:
How to we get a task force to take a look at a Motorsports Facility?
Mike

I believe you would need a Suffolk County Legislater reintroduce it. It was withdrawn with no action noted. As far as a membership goal, I think we would need to show up in Hauppauge on a weekday with at least 5000. A pretty tall order. Think about an event that gets/got results, something you saw on network news. We would need that I think. They are out there, just a bit disillusioned (my opinion).

No doubt about it. Apathy is our largest obstacle. For every "doubter" the believers have to work that much harder. That in turn makes the average person, those who are "on the fence", even a bit shy. I don't quite understand it. This should be so easy. The "nimby issue" is, in my opinion, minor compared to that. Not trying to be fresh here but I have to ask: if we were to rally, what would be the goal? When we were close it was the lack of bodies that set us back.

Not to sound mean:
For somebody like myself who loves the hobby I did not even know we were close to any deal. I like many other people were not aware of anything was even on the table.
Goal: To promote awareness of the sport and the revenue/jobs it can provide to the region.
The awareness would also be geared towards Long Islanders who have no interest in the sport. Why? Beause the revenue/jobs it would bring to the region would help all Long Islanders.
Reduce/stabilize taxes on Long Island. My town taxes just went up and have no change in service:confused:
With enough support we can petition our local officials to take another look.
Our local officials are in office because we voted them in. We also have the power to vote them out.

I know the guys at FTHR and WBAB station manager, along with a few others in media.
Wbab won't get involved..were political....and he is a scca racer
FTHR has done a few stories already.... Now i also see someone said they knew nothing of or about this...
We were on news 12 several times and also a long island talks segment...
We were in suffolk life almost weekly....
We were in newsday several times...
We were in riverhead news ...weekly...
A few other long island papers...several times
2 other radio talk stations....a few times
Fliers all over the place...all the time
S&K's monthly magazine
A interview with long islands need for speed...and then they cancelled airing it... which was stupid and they clearly can't/don't understand why...but they too claim they want a facility in the worst way...
Not to mention the sites i go to and unfortunately have to keep there interest peaked...which is more then i care to list...and i shouldn't have to keep there interest...they should want to make sure there not missing anything...
How can someone not have known ? People were calling me at the shop and i continually directed them to LIMA and explained the importance of being a member listed on that site...were talking thousands not 20 or 100. As matter of fact between e-mails and phone calls the week leading up to the single most important show of force i had 2200+ by that friday night all saying "can't wait, this is going to be great, wouldn't miss this for the world" ... i was so sure we were done with the fighting for....only to see 100 people the next day...
On the LIMA site there is a post dealing with the levels of society, which is why many of us believe the society we are in is at the apathy stage.

Not mean at all. We never seem to be able to get to everyone. I think at this point the most cost effective way is what we are doing right now, digitally. Everytime you find out about a bulletin board with car enthusiats, talk about it. It costs nothing but time. (which we all have some of) The LIMA Board exists for that very reason, yet is under utilsed. The idea there was instead of going to LIstangs,Lidragracing,SBP and well, you get it, everyone would be able to go one place. It never happened. And whats worse now on some boards, you get received with hostility by merely mentioning the concept or anything. The cost/benefit was explained/shown at the county and Riverhead Town on the Yaphank and Calverton properties resectively. So I am always open to any new ideas. I haven't given up.

When I went around to the parts houses AID Auto wouldn't let me leave flyers there either saying they didn't want to get political. The only other place was Advanced Auto in Holbrook everybody else was very accommidating.Did we ever try the angle of safer streets and make a flyer to focus on the general public as a quaility of life issue,go outside the motorsports community.I did get positive responses from people at the Riverhead thing with Alan when we were politicing against Cardinale at the shopping ctr. and Art & I did get a positive feel from Ms.Johnson at that libarary in coram. With these people we need to change the sterotypical image of your typical racer from drunken rowdies to inventive engineer a quaility that made America great but is now being restrained by not having a place to test your ideas.

That is part of LIMA's reason for being, it is how i have the scpd with us thru our safety issues of no street racing...
Everytime we speak we always always explain to people how we can stop street racing with a facility...
I never ever leave that out...
LIMA is more then just a single focus on having a facility for racing... but without a facility nothing else can take place, it's also a community outreach venture, teaching and a tool for safety on the street

or really good at math. If your playing a card game and can count the cards you can seriously sway the odds in your favor. yea, they have the same slums in Atlantic City they've always had there. The only thing that improved is the area immediately around the casino n even that was a minimal improvement.
When you have big casino's giving ppl tax breaks that just means lower income ppl can afford to live there. In NY lower income generally means shitholes. cause NY ppl that have money WILL NOT live near lower income ppl.
