Born and raised on LI, now live in West Islip.

Loved draging racing as long as I can remember. Used to race at Westhampton during the early-mid eighties. Got married in 1989, started a family and sold everything. Always knew when the children got older I would get back into drag racing.

Fast forward to 2008. My son 10 loves to watch Pinks, Pinks All Out and Pass Time. Took him to Pinks All Out at E-Town. I got seats at the burnout box on the pit side. The kid is hooked!!! He can't wait to go back.

Funny story on the way back. Got stuck on the "Bridge". His comments to me was "Daddy why is'nt there a drag strip on LI. Why do we have to go to New Jersey?" My reply was "it's a long story kid.........."

Steve Levy I hope you are listening, better yet reading this.

Long Island needs a Motor Sports Park :2215:

Always knew the Hamptons was in trouble. Did not know how screwed up the owner was until I read some posts.

Glad to be aboard!

My folks still live there up behind what use to be King Kullen still have friends there.Couldn't afford to buy there when I was looking for a house.I had lots of good times there when I was a kid.In the 60's and 70's it was hot rod and biker heaven.Almost died there street racing, two poles Laurel road and 25A.Paying the price for that mistake everyday now.

I remember Provanzano's.I worked at Star Car Autobody when I was a kid at the end of the train station north side.My brotherinlaw owned the Sonoco at Larkfield and Fifth now something else.Another guy I know owns Masterweld Larkfield and Claypits,Chesire tire is another guy I know the list could go on.Do you remember Elwood Speed Kronski's 55 Chevy. It doesn't seem that long ago but it was a whole other life,I haven't seen most of those guys in probably 20 years, but I know their there.Man sometimes lifes just too fast,or I'm just to old.Wish I could take one more ride down that highway.

Gary curitti is part owner of Masterweld he drives a wild 34 Ford or did his partner is a guy named Tony Lambros he the guy I know he had some wild cars and bikes.Rodney Chesire and family lived on 3rd street in E northport he use to have a real nice 68 camaro.Tommy Hill turquise and white 56 belaire he had that car from highschool got it from his grandmother his brother bobby had a black66 impala ss.I had a hand me down 56 nomad that I got from my brothers it was purple metalflake but I repainted it ice blue metallic which looked more like silver blue tinted windows.Bob Schifano 34 ford pearl orange,he also had 48 candy red austin orange 72 vega wagon. There was probably another thirty cars in that square mile. One of my brothers built a Triumph gt6 with a small block he also had a black 68 chevelle ss.And if you cruised into huntington man now I'll be up all night trying to remember names and cars.Oh yeah wedge master Steve Kreiger started as a henry j and became a 65 fury which he still has,gas station pulaski and larkfield. There were 4 stations there and they all had cars. This could become a novel I better stop. That exxon station you mentioned that's where I had my accident there was a pole in the street with the curb behind it that was the first one I hit the other was #1372 on the other side where Salvators Restaurant was that's the one that killed me.Street racing bad idea but that's why I'm here so others don't have to be there.

I love the focus of this site to bring a dragstrip back to LI. :headbang:

How can I help getting more petition sigs?

FYI: I found this site by putting in the search engine "LI Dragstrips".

Well Mike for now if you could get your friends and family to join here and LIMA which is our political action group that would be a great start.
We will have to generate a new petition probably through LIMA as they would probably be the ones bringing it to the political meetings.
all this stuff is up for discussion so if you have any ideas feel free to post them.Everyones point is valid here and it's good to go foward with all in agreement.
If you havn't joined LIMA you can do so by going to the main page blue dot at the bottom.
Thanks for offering your help it will be needed in the near future.

Hey we all use to steal stuff from there when we were kids. Its been a while I can't believe that place is still there. They had a few stores but i think that was their first. The last time I went down Larkfield Rd. I didn't recognize the place. Is the cop booth still at the train station.A few guys I know tried to put a chain around it and pull it with a car.You know the stores on Pulaski & Larkfield theres a tunnel between the stores for parking lot access my cousin put his 65 chevelle through there on a dare it was so tight he clipped the passenger door handle off the car but the body never touched on either side.
Jack started building cigarette boats with a guy I use to work with at Star Car named Charlie in the 70s.I remember a car at his shop an MG-A or bug eyed sprite that they put a small block in.Here I go again.Just one more these two brothers on Elwood built a Opel Kadet with a big block the engine was set so far back the guy sat up were the backseat was a full chassis door slammer complete with full cage rare back then.

The tunnel was in the corner where the stores turn from south to west.If you go there to check it out look for a chipped brick on the face brick that narrows the opening on the store side about door handle high there is like a one inch chip that's where he lost the handle. He started his run on Cheshire ln.where the church is went up the back lot entrance through the tunnel

Some history on my car. Car was a showroom car at Reid Chevrolet in Springfield Gardens, Queens.

Original owner was a lady from Queens. She traded the car back to the dealership in 1965 for a Nova. The second owner was the partsroom's brother who sold the car in 1968 because he got drafted. I spoke to him by phone and he was excited that the car still existed.

Car was built in Tarrytown and has always been a Queens/Long Island car.

Car has the original numbers matching 409/340hp engine. The car was equipped with a powerglide. The car now has a 4-speed M20 converted by the person I purchased the car from using NOS parts.

Car has power steering/brakes, power windows, 3:36 posi, factory tilt steering wheel and factory vinyl top. The vinyl top is convertible material gluded directly to the roof with no padding.

Have never taken this car for a pass down the strip but plan on this Spring.

Thanks for the replys.......... Car is Saddle Tan with a Saddle Tan interior.

Nova no plans to back half the car. ;) It would be cool though.

I am planning to build a drag car within the next year or two with my son since he is getting to be the right age.

Looking to do a 1998-2002 Camaro with a mini tub. I like the LS3/480 HP engine from GM performance parts.
