Bracket racing for me. I don't much like spectating. Heads up is Wwwwwaaaaaayyyyyy too expensive. Not to mention high maintainence.

My inspiration for being here is to provide a safe environment to race.WTH you are me 30 years later.I'll just say this leave the beers home and be safe. The nightmare never goes away. It's a disgrace with all the motorsports fans on Long Island,People only bitch about racers but turn there backs when we ask for safe place to make it safe for all. Shame on them!

I prefer bracket racing myself. But have noproblems with heads up, I love the stock appearing class and the fast class as of late. You have to love the times being turned in with stock tires.

I like bracket racing. I'd like to try some heads-up racing, but the classes that do that are usually too fast for me...

For the last 3 years, I have been racing in the Stock Appearing Drags. Rules are: You have to use all original parts, heads, intake, carb, exhaust manifolds, air cleaner, full exhaust etc. The car and engine, etc., have to look just as did when it left the factory. Also, we are limited to bias ply tires like G70-14 Polyglas. I have a basic, low budget engine and have turned a respectable 11.97 at 115 mph, however, the problem with this class is that there are some guys that spend $5000 just for a crankshaft. Then another $45,000 for the rest of the motor. Dyno time galore and heads that are done, then redone, then re-re-done. Holy crap. I don't have that kind of money. Some guys go so far as to reove the guts of ALL seats except the drivers, put a little drycell battery in an empty full size battery case, replace numerous brackets with liteweight stuff, and on and on. Yeah, they go really good but these cars cost HUGE money. Thats the reason for the exsistence of bracket racing.

I've read about those FAST racers, I think it was in National Dragster a couple of years ago. Those guys are just plain crazy with what they do with their cars and still keep them "stock appearing". It's kinda like the NHRA Stock classes, I guess, where they're limited as to what they can do to the motor. Yet they still run 10's and 9's.

Nobody runs 9's with a Stock Appearing car. The record is held by an L-88 Corvette at 10.59 about 130 mph. Those cars (Vette) are a little unfair because they have such short wheelbase and the engine is setback quite far in the chassis. The drivers butt is only inches in front of the rear wheel, so the Vette gets a much better bite than a "normal" musclecar (sedan). That guy had a 1.61 short time. NO ONE else gets those knid of 60 ft. numbers. The best I've seen is about 1.69-1.70 ish. And THAT is very infrequently. My best is a 1.79. Most cars average about 1.90 . The tires are just too small. The vast majority of big block cars run in the low 11's. Small block cars run in the high 11's or lo 12's.

Hey!
Maybe If We Get A Track We Could Do A Pink's All Out.
I Can Slow My Car Down 1/2 Sec. That Would Be Cool To Run Heads Up 10:00. New Track New Race . $18.000 Would Be A Real Nice Purse
Considering We Use To Go 8-10 Round's For $200 Buck's (thank's Penguin)

Right, I was talking about the NHRA Stock classes, not FAST.

Right. I think Robert Pond held the A/Stock record with a 9.90 at 135 maybe in a '67 427 Fairlane. Crazy times.

When I can, brackets are fun. I spent more time crewing and helping out than driving though. I have done some oval track stuff too. A buddy of mine is involved with that 10.5 tire stuff, they were out at Milan this weekend.
