View Full Version : NASCAR in NYC
Anyone check out any of the NASCAR events here in NYC?
I was going to check them out doing the lap of Manhattan, but had a meeting I couldn't get out of.
Funny, if I ran NASCAR I wouldn't do anything in NY since any mention of a track is met with such opposition. I guess they don't care as long as they can bring in the $$

:poke:Yea, I heard the board in Riverhead tried to vote against nascar's lap in manhattan, they wanted a bunny slope ski event instead indoors of course.
I didn't get to see them run but there have been three cars on 7th Ave at penn station for the last few daysI'm bringing them flyers tomorrow.
The Victory Week celebration is advertisers/sponser gold. Besides the three cars TMAC referred to, there are usually three in Times Square (Military Square) , two at Bryant Park (Sixth and 34th), two at Madison Square Park(23rd and Fifth where Broadway crosses) and two other displays that I forget where they are. Talk about exposure. They are there from about 7A to 7P for five days with freebee give aways and what not. I saw the beginning of the Victory lap last year, didn't pay any attention to 'Cup at all this year after they jacked with the finish of the '500 on live TV. That was the last straw for me. I still follow the Modifieds a bit, but could care less about the "Big Three". Na$car has dicked with what made them so much, that they have alienated long time fans for the revenue of "new" fans. It must be working 'cus they are on "real" tv not just a pay cable/satellite channel. JMO

I used to work on the 18th floor of 3 Times Square (the Reuters building). A year or three ago I'm sitting at my desk, near a window when all of the sudden I hear this roar from down on the street. I poke my head over to have a look at what's going on, there's a bunch of NASCAR cars tearing around the corner. WTF? I had no idea they were in town or were gonna do that. By the time I got down to the street it was all over, nothing to see.
