For what its worth, I wrote to Bruton Smith about the land offer from Riverhead that was turned down by Rexcorp. If he can afford 60 million for the new track proposal in Concord (possibly four lanes, all concrete, lotsa corporate suites, etc.) maybe he would be interested in our little project. Who knows?!?!

Ok, sorry, I misunderstood the information. I thought since Westhampton was so small a track could be squeezed in to that available parcel.

West hampton was a total of 60 acres. 40 acres would just fit a drag strip and nothing else... The reason of only 40 acres is the boundary issues and the DEC and enviorment groups.
I'd be happy with just a dragstrip...

me too. if the land was available, which its not!
Bruton Smith already knows about Calverton. He was here a few years ago looking at possible locations for a NASCAR track. He also looked at the Meadowlands and Staten Island.
He took one look at a map of Long Island, realized the only way to get to the track was the LIE, and said you've got to be kidding me? Remember the Trump deal? That's why it fell through.
The Meadowlands plan was to rebuild the horse track with an oval around it (Dover style). The 2 problems were the NJ Sports Commission didn't want to close the racetrack for 2 years, and the NY Giants have final veto power. Bruton wasn't about to dump millions of dollars into a project only to have the football team say no at the last minute.
And we all know about SI.
