I have been following the L.I. track situation for some time now. I would swap news links with Mike when I knew him as orange duster on the n.e. streetcar site. I got people to sign the petition not to close L.I.M.P., wrote letters and made phonecalls for Yaphank and Riverhead, went to rallys and told everyone that would listen about what was going on. I never wrote DRAGSTRIP in any letters and never said DRAGSTRIP in any phonecalls, it was always motorsports because I knew the winesipping, kaki short crowd would be in a uproar. I never thought the word DRAGRACING or DRAGSTRIP would be taboo on a motorsport website. Worst part of it is I get scolded by a two week in roundy rounder from Riverhead. I like dragracing, I realy don't care for NASCAR and hate the smell of horse shit so why do I bother if your going to put my sport down by calling it the "D" word.

I agree; I would say 90% of the supporters are drag racers and 10% roundy rounds. Cardiale has offered Rexcorp 271 acres to build a track and they turned it down. I think a 1/4 mile Drag Strip and a 1/3 mile oval woud make allot of people very happy and would fit on this parcel. I think it may be time to ask for what we really want.

I don't see whats the big deal with saying "Drag Strip" in anything.

Rexcorp is in it for the money [as well they should be]. Year round operation = year round income, besides they will most likely lease everything out to other operators. How many acers is Lebanon valley on, they have a drag and oval track?

.....which leads me to my next question. Why wont Riverhead Raceway put ina a 1/4 mile???
While I always agree you should say what you think and get down to the nitty gritty I believe the reasons were if people heard the word, you know, drag racing any chances of getting a track would be gone. The school of thought was to get the land first have it zoned for(motorsports activities)than build a drag strip as once it was zoned it couldn't be stopped, but, but by saying you wanted to buy land for a drag strip up front would just blow any chances of us getting anything,as the feeling of the general public is that drag racers are beer drinking ruffians that will disturb the surrounding area. Here's what I don't get if the one major reason to provide a SAFE HAVEN for racers and get them off the streets, what kind of racing is being done on the streets that everyone is complaining about(here comes those words again)DRAG RACING:eek:Every time you open a newspaper and read about high speed anything on the street it's refered to as drag racing.I my mind and obviously yours a drag strip should be the #1 priority as it would provide a SAFE ENVIRONMENT to be performed and in the minds of John Q public make streets SAFER.This is where the NIMBY effect enters.I strongly believe that we need all forms of motorsports to band together as there is power in numbers, but the question stills remains will drag racing be part of the picture in the final cut.By promoting ourselves in a professional manner as many have done I can't see why those words should be left out being is how you know drag racing would probably be the main asset of the park as the average Joe or Joanne can afford it at it's basic level.
now for something stupid I once was a male dancer but was fired for lack of entertainment:D Bring back Dips&Whales

I'm with ya... I'm more concerned about getting a drag strip than anything else, since I'm a drag racer. A NASCAR track would be nice, I may go to check it out once in a while. A road course... Well, I'm not into that at all.
Where is Riverhead Raceway gonna put in a drag strip? The property there is worth millions, if they were gonna add a new track they'd need a pit area, more parking, etc. Where would they get that from? They certainly can't cut down the woods, there'd be an uproar from all the tree-loving nimbys.
Let's say Rexcorp gets some property at EPCAL. They put in a road course, an oval track and a drag strip. Which of those has a weekly series that would bring in constant revenue? Well, NASCAR has the weekly series, so I guess that would qualify. But the weekly bracket racers is what would bring in the most bucks. Remember when LID was open? That place was a dump, the toilets never worked, the concessions stand served undercooked food, the pits were an absolute mess but every single Sunday that place was packed! Racers as far as the eye could see, and the pit-side stands were always full.
Look at Englishtown on a non-points "regular" racing Sunday. The place is packed, 5 lanes full of cars in the Heavy class. And 3/4 of those people I used to race with at LID.
Imagine what a quality track in Calverton would be like. Get a good track, with a good promoter who can bring in some decent sponsors. Have a couple of big $$$ footbrake or Super races like Atco and Maple Grove, that place would pay for itself within a year. Ok, maybe not a year but you get the idea. EVERY weekend from March or April to November there'd be racers lined up at the gate waiting to get in.

I guess the question I'm asking has anybody ever asked them. I'm not sure on the actual area they own but since they already race there it seems like a no-brainer. If Riverhead dumped a few bucks into the place, like you said they could make a pile. Plus, it would be nice to see them revamp the place.

Hey Bracketman, I saw your post on lima and now it's gone. you should never have used the "D" word.
The way I here it the property to the right of the entrance and behind the existing pit area is owned by Keyspan and they intend to start useing it to park trucks there, this will eliminate most of the spectator parking.Track is for sale but existing owner will only sell to someone that will keep it as a track. If Riverhed TB is so pro motorsports why don't they help provide suitable parking, they said they were going to landmark the track.Hey thats what was said about Bridge Hampton you see how well that turned out.:poke:

If you search for his posts without logging in, it comes up with "Sorry - no matches."
Do you have any forums protected, meaning the user has to log in before they can see it?
