I've been to both the 4 wide and Carolina Nationals where they run 2 wide and this is just my opinion but the 4 wide sucked. There was so much going on with 4 cars you didn't know where to look and always missed something during the run. The other thing is that they spend half the time running the Pro cars and they don't run any extra rounds so basically the program is cut in half.

I'm not a fan of four wide either.
I was just posting about the facility.

Not a fan of the four wide either but thought the idea when built was to keep the racing going in case of an oil down. That idea I like.

I know, I'm just busting them. We are headed down there in a month to look at houses and areas, only a few more to go. Bruton Smith always has to cause excitement but the facility is the nicest track for both races and fans that I've ever seen. We should get him here to the Island, I bet there would be a track built within a few years.

I heard that Bruton Smith actually came here and talked to Riverhead town politicians and left saying he would never talk to these people again. (That was put politely, not his rather colorful words)

Yep I believe that. When he went to build Zmax he met some local resistance also but when he told them he was going to tear down the 1.5 NASCAR track and the dirt track and rebuild the whole shabang in the next county they granted him the permit for Zmax...now thats balls.

LOL!
If that was true don't you think we would have read it in a newspaper or on tv?

I have read similair articles concerning the Zmax dragstrip.
They even named the street after him!

What I am trying to understand is that there are no articles that he came to speak to Riverhead?
Everytime there is a pitch for the property (polo for example) it is wrtten up in the local paper.

Why was'nt there any articles written about the largest motorsports owner coming to Long Island?

I'm sure we could contact the SMI PR DEpt. and they would have any info regarding his visit but trying to get it printed here in LI will be the impossible part. Newsday is to political to write anything about racing, the only time they print motorsports is if someone dies or they are "drag racing on the street". I saw the other day that Brookhaven Town is going to sub contract the Calabro airport in Shirley out along with a bunch of other depts., it seems they've found themselves a bit short on cash to keep them running. That airport might make a nice place for us to run also and its got easy access to the LIE and Sunrise...not that its going to be considered but its just another thought.

I believe he was interested around the time of Donald Trump and they were turned away. I think it was a joint effort. You may find something there. Different administration and it was prior to the ski mountain rexcorp crap.

I know he was intrested way back and actually Dale Sr, was here looking around when Steve Park drove for him but nobody wants to put up with the local BS. This is a untapped market with NYC being so close and the millions of full wallets. Most of this went down when the sport was growing so fast you could have sold toilet paper with the #3 on it, well things changed and they are hurting big time. That property at EPCAL will sit there forever and will always be someone eles problem, what a shame. i'd love to know the actual number on how many familys are moving out of here each year, I can't wait.

Truth be told, LIMA had a letter writing idea in April of 2010. I know I sent one, and still have it saved on the 'puter here at work. To my knowledge, Mr. Smith has never come here, though the France family along with Donald Trump made a inquiry of sorts shortly after the property became available. Given the treatment of ISC with the property they bought in Staten Island, I don't think they would be interested in coming back. You could always ask, but they were snubbed pretty hard by the good people of NYC fearing "traffic & noise". Folks with no vision. I saw parking at Newark Intl Airport and an extension of the light rail right to the track. Everyone wins! Except here....

There is no way anyone is investing any money here with these morons making the decisions for LI's future. All they are worried about is the term that they are serving and how to make the working taxpayers pay more for the freeloaders....."Less for More" that should be our motto.

I also sent a letter to Bruton Smith back then did anybody at LIMA ever get a response. Your right Art it was the France family, 2 steps back on the game of life for me.

I was very involved in NASCAR for a long time and I can tell you a few things, all the big players talk to each other very frequently and their the sole purpose is to make money. They could care half less where the track is located as long as it can make them more money than building it somewhere else, its nothing for any of them to hop their private helecopter to their private jet and be home before you've even gotten out of the parking lot and thru traffic. They've looked at all the possible places and have marketing teams to find new venues, everything is taken into consideration, property costs, building costs, political and local resistance and tax breaks along with a ton of other items. We have nothing to offer them except resistance and high costs, it would be easier to build in a wildlife refuge in another State than build here on LI and they already know that.
