LIDR and HDRA met with the Patchogue FD tonight to discuss a 2012 Car Show/100 Foot Drag Race Fundraiser Event.
The meeting went extremely well with positive feedback and comments.
More details will follow on the fundraiser event.

Now thats how to do it.
I said a while back to get the FD involved but got bashed to hell on the LIMA site. The Greenport FD would be interested also.
Can it be more then 100'?

Date yet or too soon? Obviously avoid the two dates set for Riverhead (April 28 and May 20). Where is their facility so I can scope out the track surface and take notes about where the groove is!!!
Here is a interesting angle to consider. The Brookhaven facility on Rte 25 in Ridge is perfect for 100' drags. Get that thought in a chiefs head once the "foot is in the door". Get that plum and I would be interested again. If you need a Town legislator, I will work on my local rep. (I'm a Brookhaven Town resident, property owner and taxpayer)

Looks like more then 100' to me.

If I knew all of that photo shop stuff I could probably post some sort of image showing the place. I'm pretty sure the surface is about 700' long with Armco on both sides. It has concessions, bleachers, and bathrooms. If there was ever a place that was suited to holeshot drags, this is it. The only thing it is a little light on, is parking.

I know its before anything is finalized but can you say track prep? What's a wrong with a little VHT for us and the fire department trucks? (bang, there goes a driveline!)

Right now we cant push the issue of more than a hundred foot. Jay Eastgate is going to upgrade his timing equipment and show 100 ft mph
Be patient we are working on him with the whole thing about the 60 ft and all.
lets run with this as is for now. I think its going to explode across the island.
I know Valley stream and Hempstead have a race facility. Plus the Greenport and so on. wildfire baby.
Sounds great guys, good work. Parking will definitly be a problem for anyone with a trailer but lets see where, what and how when it happens. Maybe a huge turnout will be a good thing especially if you can get something going in the Riverhead FD area. Ever been to the Bald Hill car show, the Farmingvile FD makes a ton of cash there all summer long...remember CASH is KING! Anyone up for a trip to Atco this Sunday? 1985 and older drags, I'm there!

it is tentative and the only way it wont go thru is the dates chosen could be a problem. I think they want it just as bad as we do.

Hmm. Definetly need mufflers, lots of houses around.... Nice spot though. Would support vehicles be parking on the grass?

Not a problem for moi, I have full exhaust with tailpipes to the bumper. You hardy know it is running. Class I originally built for required tails, since all "real street cars" have tailpipes. Or something.

I can't believe it, that is the parking lot I use for the Patchogue Music Festival that I go to every year. Guardrails on both sides, fenced, the fields have been used for parking for the festival. The festival is the weekend of the 16th in July so that date is out. What can I do to help this get off the ground? Call the fire department?
I have mufflers on my car but its still loud, but its a nice loud and the smell is awesome...I think they'll like it my neighbors got used to it and it only took a few years.

Ask Mike S if you want to help in any way. We met with the FD but its on with a tentative date. Maybe if you know someone put in your own 2 cents to push it further.,
I think its a go . i have a good feeling about this.

The FD is putting together a fundariser committee to explore the proposed event further.
When the committee is selected they will be contacting me to meet with them. :)
Right now is not a good to call them directly. They have my cell# as the contact person.
We will need help from LID members as this event takes off the ground.
The date will not conflict with the Riverhead 100 Foot dates or the Fest in July.
A June date is being discussed.
The FD currently practices with their Fire truck on the track.
About 10 years ago they used to have annual events there.
FD from Suffolk and Nassau would attend. All the FD have trailers and tow vehicles so they
are used to the traffic and noise.
The track used to have bleachers when the events were run there.
The bleachers were to the right of the overpass opposite the street.
Rider Ave most likely will be closed to traffic.
The track itself is approx. 800 feet long.

they were used to the noise ten years ago......not to put a damper on anything..but lets see what theyre up to now.....what didnt bother me ten years ago....bothers me now.....lets hope they havent changed......new people move in ..neighborhoods change....i got my fingers crossed....hope its a go...
It's a one day event not a constant thing noise will probably not be that big of a factor but mufflers will probably be asked for. They run an ocean racing boat race there every year and there's no issues. The town is pretty good at handling traffic movement down there besides the music event and the boat races they have several other events down there that attract big crowds. There is also more parking east and west of there on roads and up towards the village. The earlier you get there the less walking. My nephew lives on south ocean and leo. Patchogue is a town that likes events not so anal.

I believe the FD has the people already in place as it goes for doing the event and I think the way they're looking at it right now is what it is going to take to set the area up for the event. I would think calling them about particulars right now is probably wasting a dime.
I went to the President's Council meeting yesterday with the attention to listen and observe how the meeting operates since it was my first time at one.
I submited the event information and it was entered into the database.
When the event schedule is finalized it the event for June 23rd will be published in it.
Any questions concerning the event should be directed to either HDRA or Patchogue FD.
I will post any updates when they become available.

Well it can't be Jay, he has a problem with getting the mph going on the 100 ft. I don't think he would venture 200 ft. Upgrades involved and all.
But it would be interesting.
