I don't think Republic will do anything for us their strictly an airport, but there is that state owned lot across from it we've been bringing up all the time.

Republic is still an active airport and I'm pretty sure the two can't mix by faa regulations.

I'd love to see it happen. That parcel of land you're refering to (the state owned lot across from the airport) is so close to my house that if my car broke at the strip I could push it home. Unfortunately, I don't think it will go anywhere. It's presently being used as some sort of staging area for mountains of bark mulch and construction materials. Any track at that location would be an 1/8th mile strip, but that would be fine by me. If anyone thinks we can make a go of this count me in - I'm all for it.

Maybe we should ask the question if it could be cut loose. I haven't been by that place in a few years from the street side, but can it accomidate parking, trucks with trailers that kind of thing. Dyno Don brought this plac up probably 3 years ago and I pass it M-F on the train side. The pluses of this spot would be central location on the Island, making it probably more successful over something at the east end. It's right next to an airport and heavy industry so zoning shouldn't be an issue. The negatives would be traffic, parking, heavy demo to clear the site, the prior use the site is probably somewhat toxic and someone to invest money to build it. Patterson is on the way out now would be the time to ask him. We sell it as a traffic safety issue and ask if he will give us the land, kind of like the Pine Barren Assoc. does.

1/8 Mile is good for me also considering the parcels of land available and there cost.

I found out recently that NYS leases the land you are refering to the mulch operation.

But that brings up an idea?
If they lease the land to the mulch operation why can't another parcel be leased to
a drag strip venture?

Considering the poor economic times NYS is in?

That would require a politician with some clear thinking and the public interests ahead of thier own. Sadly, I cannot think of one. I'm not saying we shouldn't try, just that given the current "mood" of the voting public, who do we contact? That land is in the IIRC first suffolk county district. I'm not sure how the state legislative turfs lay out though. I'm on Brookhaven and my state senator is Ken Lavalle. I don't know who my state representative is off of the top of my head, though I'm sure as soon as I'm done typing it will come to me. edit Fred Thiele. Let me see if I can find out who is for there.
Further edit
The land lies in the 8th senatorial district. Current Senator is Charles Fuschillo. Based on the zip code it lies in one of the following assembly districts:
10th James Conte
11th Robert Sweeney
12th Charles Levine
Does anyone remember voting for any of these guys? If you do, you could be our contact person.

Patterson he might just do it out of spite if we sell it to him that way. We'd need that mulch place too I think.
