Hi all.......I'm a member all about a few hours now. A lot or the local racers might know me.....Big Block Bill......formerly of BBB Custom Lettering. I was down south for a few years and I'm back on LI as B&R Custom Lettering.
I'm a racer from years back, both on the street and the track. I was teamed up with a 67 Chevelle called Psycho, had a black 67 chevelle with several big blocks, as well as a 67 camaro big block and a few small block cars. I was mechanic and part time driver of a legal E/MP and F/MP 69 camaro, that shows how far back it was since I raced.
As a kid, I worked at Islip Speedway....the roundy rounds and the drags as well as maintenance all year round, held T/SA record for last season. Raced at Englishtown, Islip, NY National and Westhampton. I helped out as best I could to push LID along with Walter Frey and Big Tony C. I have done work on a lot of local cars. I'm back on the Island and hope to help any way I can to promote good, unpolitical racing on the Island. Let's see if we can make something happen...........Bill
Welcome Bill, so your back on LI, I like many have been thinking about moving down south.
Of course if we had a track here that would weigh into staying...
by the way, I do love my RIP Hampton sign that you gave away during the reunion

Thanks for the reply. I was in Charlotte, NC. There was no aparent reason for my business failing at the time. I dealt with 2 business advisors that along with me couldn't figure what was wrong. So, here I am back home, starting again. I have several customers and friends moved tl NC. They all said it was tough to get work. One still has his house down there but is up here working, I had another friend do same thing. I had a customer sell his business up here, he moved to NC with 5 of his guys that all bought houses and are all quite happy. They converted to mail order stuff rather that off the street service and are doing well. I hear now it's real tough.
If you have money behind you, to ride out the storm, I'd move, there are tracks all over the place. A few of my race car customers moved down there too. I have a few friends that are still working the angles to get a track up here on the Island. I see you are from Medford, I used to drive a car for a friend that lived in Medford, I found out he died while I was down south.
Keep in touch.....any questions about anything I can help you with, feel free to ask. Nice to meet you........Bill

Thanks Tom for the reply. Great looking and running car.........best luck with it. Hope we get a track here before too long. There are a few people I know that are working still on putting something together. The sticking point appears to be some politician in Riverhead. He might be out in 2010, if that happens, that should open some doors that do appear to be there. I did help as best as I could along with Walter and Big Tony at LID to make that work. I thought things were going to work with Gary, but I joined the long list of victims he screwed over. The past is in the past, let's hope for something to happen. Thanks again................Bill

Phil Cardinale I believe was the sticking point. The closest my friends ever got to him was his secratary. She sent them to the realtor with the property in Calverton. If that guy is indeed gone...I think this deal will fly.... my friend told me Levy was onboard, just his hands were tied because of that guy Phil Cardinale. I'll check up to see what is the latest on the move...............Good to be here..........Bill

Well round about is better than not, but it sure makes my days on the beat with flyers seem less noble. Sorry to inform you that I'm not your old friend Tom my name is Terry but I am old.

Sad news we have lost a LID member. :(
BB Bill was to meet us next week at our monthly meeting.
From the 348-409.com Website:
"For you National Speedway fans, Billy Radin has just passed away, this week
he was a good guy like many of the car guys here.
he was a also known as Big Block Bill, (bblockbill@aol.com) a well known racer at National Speedway and a track tech official at Islip Speedway. He was known for his 1955 red chevy Big Block L88
Go Bill Go!"
BB Bill Rest in Peace.
Maybe we should take up a collection for the family?
Mike
I was looking foward to meeting him, he seemed to have a lot of insite and knowledge. It's a dam shame. God bless his loved ones and may he rest in peace.

FYI.
The following is the email conversations that I had this week with Big Block Bill's wife Nancy.
If anybody would like to contact her see the attached email address.
I sent her our LID decal that Bill helped us finalize with his input.
Nancy,
Sorry to hear about your loss.
We were going to meet Bill this week at the Long Island Drag Racing Website monthly meeting.
All members in attendance were all shocked by the sad news.
Bill joined the Long Island Drag Racing Website in Jan 2010.
Even though we never met Bill in person he energized us as a group and helped us
finalize our website decal.

Dear Mike,
Thank you so much for the beautiful words about my Billy. He was really looking forward to meeting you at the monthly meeting. I have his little post-it notes with the date all over the computer!
His passing was so sudden and completely unexpected. After all the symptoms of a flu turned into delirium and labored breathing, I called an ambulance. After hours at the hospital, he went into cardiac arrest and he was gone.
I was told his liver and kidneys were failing due to sepsis, a blood infection, that had probably been working on him for a long time. Blood clots in his leg also added to his illness.
I have been with him for over 10 years and I am lost without him. He was my heart and my strength. I still expect him to walk in the door and give me one of his wonderful bear hugs. I am attaching a photo of him next to one of the drag race cars he did in 2005.
Thank you, again, for your thoughtfulness
Sincerely,
Nancy
Mike,
I would love to see the decal that Billy helped you design!
My email is: darkfairy357@yahoo.com
You may post my email and anything you wish. I know Billy would have wanted his friends to know about him and any questions I can answer I would be happy to hear from you or any of his friends. Feel free to give my email address to anyone.
Thanks again..........nancy
