View Full Version : Four-lane racing to be showcased during inaugural NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax
Thats stupid
http://www.nhra.com/story/2010/1/21/four-lane-racing-to-be-showcased-during-inaugural-nhra-four-wide-nationals-at-zmax-dragway/
The rules for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway will be as follows:
* Qualifying will be conducted using four lanes <-- cool enough
* Each category winner will be determined in three rounds of eliminations <-- so less racing??
* The two drivers to cross the finish line first in each of the four first rounds of eliminations will advance to the second round <-- what!?!?
* The two drivers to cross the finish line first in each of the two second rounds of eliminations will advance to the final round <-- still what!?!?
* Each final round will feature four drivers in each category, and the single driver to cross the finish line first in the final will be declared the winner of the race, the second runner-up and so on <-- WTF
Good thing my car will be done this year and I can skip watching NHRA and do some real racing...

Sounds more like a track meet not a drag race!!!
About as ridiculous as making it 20 lanes and let winner take all in 1 race...

now that would be cool.....and also a really short day ...hmmmmmmm.....they took my beloved drag racing and made shit out of it.....wtf?.....im not happy....anyone get any clingy decals yet??? ..im still waiting.
Four lane circus clowns complete with midgets roll over contest, with Carrot Top doing the national athem.Rosie O'Donnel in a funny car.A shemale bikini contest.A government take over of the NHRA.Hillary Clinton in a string bikini doing the arm drops on Pinks.Yes it could be worse but that idea sucks.

The format for the race is kind of strange and don't really agree with it. IMO
However, since I have been at Zmax dragway I can understand why they would want to race that way.
If you ever get the chance to go there it is an awesome facility for both the racer or fan.
The best part of having four lanes is that in the event of an oil down or a rear end explosion the action continues because they use the other two lanes while they clean the track.
The action never stops! :3gears:

for those reasons.....yup.....for the other reasons....nope....
Over on Competition Plus, it has been noted that there will probably not be full T/F or F/C fields. Anywhere. With that in mind, it sounds like the promoter/facility owner is just looking to sell tickets. Given the NHRA's position as of late (making money first) why wouldn't they go along? The NHRA has all but eliminated the independent racer in the last ten years,(don't get me started) so they should enjoy the bed they have made.

you are right art.....nhra started off really sweet and kept it up ..guess like long island it outgrew the small tracks that kept old timers like me happy.....and the younger guys being able to race and not be intimidated by the big fish.....for that reason im not into etown.....give me island or atco....where were still simple folk.....enjoying a day at the track.

With the down sizing in the pro catagories you would think the NHRA would try going back to it's roots and try to court the grass roots racer.IHRA more racer friendly.

for 99 cents you can buy one at any car show.....why bother giving them money ..theyll just come up with better ways to screw up drag racing...

Only thing 4 wide should even be considered for is Stock and all the versions of Super Stock, 300 car fields with maybe 1 or 2 cars per class. this way the finals can be brought back to sunday's
If they want to use it for the Pro Classes, then its gotta be a double loss elminator.
I am not paying same money to see 1/2 the racing..
And i just dropped my NHRA # after 38 years. sorry they got nuthin for me anymore.

bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, show me your war face maggot!
It's a kind of catch 22 if you don't support it it will disappear and once it's gone it's gonna be hard to revive. We have the perfect case to compare it to right here,we had a track now we spend countless hours tring to get one back.If you don't use it you lose it.
Will drag racing go full circle and go back to side streets? It has here.

Buying a shit product from a shit manufacturer wont save an entire industry.
These Gods of Glendora are playing keep up with the Jones's, and the Jones are dying in front of them.
FUCK all the Barnum and Baily shit, 2 cars, 2 drivers, 1 battle, 1 winner.
Sure I'm living in the way back machine, but its warm and cozy, and I'm going rounds in heads up racing.

drag racing will never go back to the way it was cause its all about money.....and big money is what makes these changes......same as sports....you used to be able to get an autograph from a player by just asking...and he was happy to do it....now without some loot he wont even look at you....shame....but thats the way it goes....hot rodding is still around....but its changed too for many of us...i refuse to sit in a chair at a show...ill go there...look around.....bullshit with people i meet ...enjoy the cars...but after a hour or so .....i want to take a cruise...our cars standing still with its hood up doesnt make it.....needs to be driven....if it doesnt have a few chips on the front from the road....its not worth the effort of building it..
drive it.....
If their running races that can't field 16 fuel catagory cars the money is leaving and without a full field people will start leaving.People aren't going to drive for hours to watch half a show at full price. On the other hand Pinks is attracting the grass roots racer that drive days to their events.Pinks and NHRA hooked up for that reason the later for financial reasons.
Now with the NHRA involved with Pinks will this be their last season?

Conspirecies everywhere!
One of my counterparts that works in mahatten, overheard the word on why Mercedes Bought Chrysler, then dumped it so fast. well they didnt dump everything they bought!
They kept the military patents, yep M/B owns the guidance systems to the missles we use in the gulf! or so i am told.
Actually China builds a critical part of our missle guidance systems that without it we can't fire a shot.Saw that on cspan.Who's to say they couldn't incorporate a glich in this part to trigger whenever they want. They bought Hummer also.China steals patents and pretty much does what it wants in our new global economy. Our manufacturing base is a shell of what it use to be.As all of those jobs went overseas our govt. allowed cheap labor to pour into our country to finish us off.The middle class that is.Now hows that for a conspiracy.

Amen to that brother...
The part that irks me is a large corporation is beholden to its shareholders, who really just want a return on their investment. So some college grad middle management person comes up with the bright idea of "outsourcing". Senior management seeing mucho coin on the horizon, says "sure". Factories are shuttered, costs are whittled to nothing, masses unemployed, and all seems well at the annual meeting. And so goes the world. Over and over again.

NHRA AND PRODUCERS OF POPULAR DRAG RACING SHOW ANNOUNCE AGREEMENT TO PRODUCE MEDIA PROPERTIES
First Project “NHRA Unleashed” to Celebrate Pure American Horsepower
GLENDORA, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2010) – NHRA and producers of the popular drag racing show Pinks®, Stephen Pullin and Jack Schaeffer, have agreed to create, develop and produce media properties including new racing competitions, new events and television programs. The first project, NHRA Unleashed, will celebrate pure American horsepower in an interactive festival environment.
Pullin and Schaeffer’s Disrupt/ive Studios, and NHRA, will explore and develop innovative properties focused on wide open wheel-standing heads-up competition embracing the car enthusiast, the roots of NHRA. NHRA Unleashed is the first of these properties, to be staged in 2010, in Atlanta, Indianapolis, Columbus, Ohio, and Gainesville, Fla. A schedule of events is listed below. The plan is to expand NHRA Unleashed to other premier drag racing facilities in the United States in 2011.
“We have been working for several months with Stephen, Jack and the team at Disrupt/ive Studios to create this unique relationship,” said Tom Compton, president, NHRA. “We are excited about creating new entertainment media properties and developing entertaining, interactive events aligned with television programming that highlight the foundation of NHRA, the grassroots racer and car enthusiast.”
NHRA Unleashed will provide a fully interactive experience for spectators and participants, embracing a new breed of drag racing enthusiast looking for pure, door slammer heads-up competition on the track, ranging from the 10.5 Outlaw to the 13-second weekend warrior, and a festival environment off the track. At an NHRA Unleashed event, everyone and everything is part of the show which will feature heads-up, no index racing on the track, interactive events including Kart Track and Autocross activities, as well as the traditional car show, car/parts swap meet, and car corrals. The drag racing format on the track will have the sole purpose of highlighting competition for the pure heads-up grassroots competitors in the country, vying for the coveted Wally® trophy. Each event will be as much a regional “happening” as it will be a drag racing event and will include exhibition runs by a variety of race vehicles.
“We want to develop events and broadcast programs that capture the sport, lifestyle, culture and original brand of NHRA Drag Racing,” Pullin said. “We believe the NHRA Unleashed event embodies everything we are looking to create jointly, a celebration of pure American horsepower.”
Further details on NHRA Unleashed will be announced later in January. In addition, NHRA and Disrupt/ive Studios intend to make further announcements in the coming months about additional creative ideas and proposals currently in the planning process.
