Yea, I arrived around 8:15ish, was a pleasure meeting all that I did. Now that I know how to get there, will be good for next time...
We now need to make a flyer to leave at speed shops, parts stores, anywhere where people will pick it up.If people are members of car clubs tell your fellow members.

I spoke to the editor of The Independent, he told me to write a "Dear Editor" letter and he will put it in the paper.
I was thinking since you all have been at this awhile, maybe one of you should write it? The letter needs to be received by the editor by next Fri for it to go in the following weeks paper.
If no one wants to write the letter, I was thinking of writing a letter detailing that a track would help keep streets safer, bring jobs to LI as well as helping the economy, and of course details about the petition... Thoughts/Suggestions???

Dan,
I have a letter saved on Word that I have used in the past.
It can be modified for the letter to the Editor. No need to reinvent the wheel.
I can reference the petition in the letter.
What feedback do you want in the letter?

Good news, I'm 261.
Bad news, there's a lot of fake names on there. C'mon people! If you're going to sign use full names, and if you don't want to put your full address put in town and zip code. This will show politicians that we're real people and we live in their district, and we vote!

Dan,
I can help you with Excel creating a database when the time arises.
IMO the two petitions should be seperate.
Keeping them seperate shows a "history" of support or a timeline.
Mike
Your right Mike it shows we're still here,as we were then.As far as the people signing with false names don't pay it any attention. The petition will stand. That could be the enemy tring to make us look bad.A real man will disagree with you to your face,a child hides behind a screen.

Yea, but you have to be a resident of Long Island to vote here... It is still great for support... Too bad so many ppl are leaving zip codes out or not putting full names, the number is misleading. Only full names with zip codes are going to be counted in the end... More than anything though your assistance is very appreciated and hopefully more people will come forward with us...

It's that mentality that puts a bad light on our sport, but if you think about real world at the track it's few and far between. Our sports is loved by all like any other sport.
The only sport I can think of that keeps people out because of race but maybe more so their station in life is golf. Many country clubs keep certain people out.You will never see that at a track.

Dan,
If I got valid names and email addresses can I sign the petition from my own computer?
This way we can add names without relying on the person till they get home?
They would still receive the email notification that they signed after I put them in. Right?

FYI:
I collected four names, email addresses and zip codes of four coworkers today.
I successfully entered them on the petition when I got home.
They said they were busy to sign up so I offered to do it for them.
Just another way of getting people to sign up.
We can do this method at upcoming car shows and swap meets to obtain more petition signatures.

Petition is a document which is usually placed before government or public authority which depicts uniformity in thought of people on a particular issue. The Petitions are of two kinds such as hand written petitions and online petitions. The hand written is very limited but access of online petition is very vast. There may be number of reasons for giving petitions:-
One can give petition for giving information on an issue of public concern.
Petition can be made to admire or deplore any policy of government.
It can be made for giving once opinion about content of media.
A businessman can make petition for promoting once product.
A petition can be made for gathering public opinion on particular subject.
One can also make petition for guiding the conduct of government.
The reason of filing petition may be to give suggestion to government on particular subject.
A petition can be made for bringing forward the problems of particular community.
It can be made for solving personal personal problem.
One can also express one's grudge for government regarding any issue through petition.
Thus there can be many reasons for making petitions. Their content is also different according to there purpose but petitions are very useful pieces of writing. The petition provides a good stage to express one's ideas, opinions, emotions.
Then whats the point? Would it make better sense to get hard signatures instead?
Yes real names and public awareness is the goal not just some madeup amount of names to provide a number. If we can't get real support it will never happen.Honesty is always the best policy.

Valid?
If you want a petition to be valid get real signatures from influential people where the track location is being built and have them notarized. Ink on paper is what counts. Billy Bob from Pork Bend Utah signs our "online petition" and it does us no good. I’ve sat on committees and as soon as someone whips out the old internet petition we would laugh.
EVERYBODY knows internet petitions are a joke.
FYI there is a calculation used to filter out a real petitions BS signatures. At 1200 on a internet site, if it were real, it would land at about 843.
Not near enough that we need.
WHAT WE NEED IS AN INVESTOR. They will have the manpower and money to influence the people we need.

in reply to post number 60..........about honesty is the best policy by tmac....i just answered...otherwise on all other topics including petitions ..i agree...:D
With LIMA as our political front and Marty as the president and others there as cabinet members I beleive we have that covered.Marty has also connected with people possibly interested in investing in such a venture(Dixie Dragzz) I think that's covered. What we need to do is provide the market for the investor and the need to politicians which we are giving an honest effort on,but if there are people out there that know people of influence that could give us some signatures of REAL importance on a otherwise laughable petition feel free to do so.I agree that people of influence can get things done but I don't know any.I'm a blue collar worker and know only blue collar people so I realize from that prospective it takes numbers and hard work to get the job done. Most blue collar people see people of influence as the ones who did drag racing in here. Not in their backyard even if it was there before their yard was.

In response to post #58, we have done the hard signature route in the past. Unless someone is willing to devote entire weekends worth of time like some board members did last time, I am of the opinion that the internet thing will have to do for now. I have no time on weekends as I am back to working 6 days (ugh) to keep the lights on at my house.

I'm with you Art but post #55 points to fudging or loading the petition with invalid names, which would make the petition a mute point something Suicide pointed out when he was sitting on committies for other issues that petitions were looked at as a joke.If that's the case what is the answer. It's out there so I think we should try and make something of it.There are people willing to do the leg work we use to do.I'm willing to hit the parts houses and local events where I am when I can.
If you think about it what havn't we tried? Is it the timing, the order in which we proceed, our presentation or that besides those of us that post the rest of the Long Island race scene has called it quits or are to lazy to get off their asses. You know as well as I everywhere we went with the exception of Riverhead Town Hall we got some positive responses.I'm suprised with all of Marty's frustration he doesn't weigh 10 pounds.
