My 70 cougar is very temperamental when she is warmed up, she tends to die out (this seems to happen when the temperature reaches ~190 degrees) when driving down the road. I checked all the connections and all seems fine, but I am wondering if it possible that she may need a stronger gauge. Once she is cooled off she starts with no issues

Engine = 351C w/750 Holley Carb

Has Comp Cams (not sure of the size) w/billet distributor

Any suggestions would be most helpful...

Danvil:

You might have a fuel problem.

I copied and pasted the photo of your engine.

It looks like the fuel line is right up against the upper radiator hose.

This will boil the fuel causing vapor lock and will stall the engine.

Try routing the fuel line away from the upper radiator hose and see what happens.

Thanks, sorry for the delayed reply, just got back from the hospital. My girlfriend decided to get in a fight with a sidewalk and lost (20 stitches on her upper lip and and 20 under her right eye) - Appreciate the info, will try that, I'll let you know how it goes. Won't be until next weekend though...

Sound like vapor lock without the lock next time it does it stop and listen to the carb for a boiling sound. The close fuel to rad. hose does not help, put a thick spacer under the carb. all ford have the 5/16 spacer under carb cause the carb gets to hot, been there done that , I threw the stock one away like most people do. look around your garage there is probaly one laying under somthing. put it back in.

Thanks for that, what size spacer would you recommend?

Almost all carb kit,s especialy ford have a it's about 5/16 "or 3/8 " .It is just a very thick gasket with plastic ring,s around the bolts. you should be able to pick one at almost any part,s house. If not available a plastic one will work too. BE CAREFULL TO TIGHTEN EVENLY or you could break the base plate of the carb.

If you don't have one of those gaskets, I'm almost certain I have one in inventory.
